Doctrinal errors, correction and social media 1
Over the years the church of our Lord Jesus Christ has gone through many phases. There are many doctrines and many systems. It is true that a lot of things need correcting especially as regards the message and the methods.
First let me clarify that the scriptures only have one message.
That message is a man Christ Jesus.
Luke 24:25-27 “Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.”
Luke 24:47 “And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.”
All scriptures point to one person and that’s Jesus. He is the fulfillment of the promise to Abraham, he is the song in every psalm, the wisdom in proverbs and the substance of the prophets.
He is concealed in the old testament writings because of the veil in the eyes of the reader but revealed in the new because the veil is taken away.
2 Corinthians 3:16 “Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the lord.”
Let me also say clearly that there is only ONE CORRECT DOCTRINE OF Christ. There aren’t many interpretations. Just one.
The doctrine of Christ means the teaching of Christ and it is always in the singular never plural because it’s just one doctrine!
2 John 1:9 “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil”
Hebrews 6:1 “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms.”
It is one doctrine hence ministry gift are given to build us into that one correct message so we don’t waver.
Ephesians 4:14 “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love”
There will always be every wind of doctrine! The ministry gift helps us get established in what is correct and sound.
The issue of sound Christian doctrine cannot be overemphasized. All through scriptures we see the writers speak vehemently of this.
1 Timothy 1:3 “As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine.”
The pastor is to ensure no other doctrine or teaching is allowed within his flock.
Romans 16:17 “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.”
You can the issue of doctrine was really important to the apostles because it forms the bedrock of the church. It is what is believed and taught that determines what a church is!
Now there are several adjectives used to describe doctrine or doctrines in scriptures.
We have sound doctrine
1 Timothy 1:10 “For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine”
2 Timothy 4:3 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables”
Sound doctrine is the doctrine according to godliness. It is the right teaching. It is devoid of fables, ambiguity and error. It is what we should be known for.
Now that said, when we see doctrinal error how are we to correct it?
In the next post we will see how and in what way to do it.
CONFESSION: I see Christ in all of the scriptures. My eyes are open to see. The scriptures are alive to me.
