Doctrinal errors, correction and social media 3
The church is a spiritual entity. It is not social gathering.
When we see obvious error being taught and practiced what do we do?
The first question you must answer sincerely to yourself is this.
Do you want it corrected because you really want men to know the truth of God’s word or do you want to show that you are a word man!
Your answer to this question will determine a lot. It will determine whether you pray first about that issue so as to have the right words to say in the right attitude that will bring correction and healing in it or just cause strife.
Very importantly we must get clear that the first responsibility a pastor has is to his congregation not another man’s congregation!
See here
1 Timothy 4:6 “If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.”
1 Timothy 4:16 “Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”
This is the pastor’s job. He takes heed to the doctrine to save himself and those who hear him in his assembly!
However, on social media when teaching separate the man from his error. Especially when it is a knowledge issue.
Listen I have followed many preachers teachings. Many have taught error at one point or another and corrected it.
Let no man act as though they never made mistakes.
We all have!
We stand by the truth of sound doctrine but let’s not character assassinate that is not love!
Error is always error and can never be made true.
However, we can correct by putting the word alone out. When we resort to other things plus the message we are demonstrating that we don’t believe the word has the capacity to correct error and the word is able!
2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
CONFESSION: As a member of the body of Christ, I seek to protect her image. I seek to walk in love towards other members. I am born of love.
