FALLING FROM GRACE
Memory verse: Galatians 5:4 “Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace”
While growing up as a believer, I heard repeatedly about the ills of falling away. We were told many times not to fall from grace then whenever a minister was found in sexual immorality, it is reported that he fell from grace. However as I studied the word of God, I realized that you do not fall from grace because you sinned. Every sin past, present and future has been paid for by the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. The term “to fall from grace” was used by Paul to speak to the Galatian church. The Galatian church was founded by Apostle Paul on the doctrine of faith and grace alone. He preached Christ and Him crucified to them and they believed his message. However, some other teachers came amongst them and began to say that unless they were circumcised according to the Law of Moses, they were not truly saved. So these other teachers brought a message of justification by fulfilling the Law of Moses in addition to justification by faith in Jesus Christ. We must note that these false teachers did not say that they should keep the whole Law of Moses; they brought back the law of circumcision to gentiles who had believed on Jesus but Paul said that if they attempt to seek justification by trying to keep the Law of Moses, they have falling from the grace they received through faith in Christ Jesus.
This shows us that you cannot be in Christ and seek justification from the law. The Law of Moses doesn’t have justification in it but only condemnation. Justification is only by faith in Christ Jesus. Now you may say how does this apply in contemporary Christianity? Well, when you as a believer seek another justification by not wearing trousers and not wearing earrings then you are fulfilling the conditions for falling from grace. Do not attempt to use your works as a basis for your justification before God. You are not justified before him because of what you do; you are justified before him solely on the basis of what Jesus has done. This is the gospel, do not add to it.
CONFESSION: Christ is my righteousness, Christ is my justification, I have peace and tranquility through faith in Christ Jesus. Amen
