Gospel lyrics and our spiritual worship 1
The songs we sing in worship to God are expressions of our revelation of God through his word. Our songs reveal our perception of God. It is very important that the lyrics of our worship songs reveal and contain spiritual truths. In fact, in the new testament the singing of spiritual songs comes under the utterance gifts.
Ephesians 5:18 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”
Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
So we can see the singing of spiritual psalms, hymns and songs is used to teach and admonish. This means that when we are singing spiritual songs we are to sing with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. So we are singing the word of God under the inspiration of the spirit within us.
While prophecy deals with spoken words inspired, spiritual singing deals with words of prophecy in a song or melody.
Spiritual singing should be the interpretation in understanding of what was sung in tongues.
1 Corinthians 14:15 “What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also”
This is prophecy but in song
If it is prophecy then it must edify, exhort and comfort!
1 Corinthians 14:3 “But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.”
The songs must build people, teachings doctrine and admonish people. Songs teach and communicate revelation! So the words must be full of revelation!
The greatness of a spiritual songs is not in the production of the beats but in the depth and accuracy of revelation embedded in the words!
So there must be great attention given to the accurate understanding of the scriptures to sing a good gospel song with high frequency revelation of the nature and character of God!
CONFESSION: I pay attention to what I listen to. I sing songs that edify, exhort and comfort.
