Gospel lyrics and our spiritual worship 4

John 4:23 “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.”

It is very important that we sing songs with revelation. It is of utmost importance. Remember, we have established that spiritual singing is actually prophecy in songs whose purpose is edify, exhort and comfort .

It also very important that when we write or sing songs that have scriptures within them, that we get the understanding of that scripture right!

For example, there is this song

Lift Jesus higher.

Lift Jesus higher.

Lift him high for the world to see.

For he said if I be lifted up from the earth I will draw all men unto me.

Now this sounds awesome until you study the scriptures quoted. Let’s study it.

John 12:31-32 “Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. This he said, signifying what death he should die.”

So being lifted up signified “the death he should die!”

John 3:14 “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life”

So as the “serpent” was lifted up in the wilderness so must the son of man be lifted up.

The lifting up was his death on the cross where he was made sin for us and judged in our stead.

The victory of Christ over sin, death, hell and the devil was made possible because he was lifted up in the crucifixion for our sins.

Do you understand?

So to sing “lift Jesus higher, lift Jesus higher and say for he said if I be lifted up from the earth I will draw all men unto me ” will actually mean “crucify Jesus again, crucify him again!”

The lifting up in scriptures meant crucifixion!

It meant being hung on a tree.

The lifting was in his hanging on the tree for our sins to die.

CONFESSION: My words are filled with grace, seasoned with salt. I sing the word, I speak the word.
