Gospel lyrics and our spiritual worship 5

Please read carefully and check the scriptures.

Joel 2:23 “Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.”

Now many will look at this posts on precision in bible interpretation in gospel lyrics as needless. They feel if a song blesses me then it’s okay. Well, I understand that, however as you grow in knowledge somethings don’t bless you anymore!

Have you heard expressions like “let the rain of your presence fall on me” or “open the floodgates of heaven let it rain”?

Now to be honest this are nice songs and I have sang them severally. But I realized something that I had not studied two words well. They are “rain” and “flood gates”.

The word “rain” appears 87 times in scriptures and there is no connection between rain and the spirit or the presence of God in scriptures. He never rained his presence in either the old or new testaments.

Rain always referred to water from the clouds in the sky which is called “heaven” in scriptures.

The first mention of rain is here.

Genesis 2:5 “And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.”

So rain was water from the physical sky watering the physical earth.

Because it’s water from a physical sky to a physical earth, the result is that the earth produces fruit. This is a purely physical activity.

Leviticus 26:3 “If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their increase”

Joel 2:23 “Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month and the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine”

The former rain and the latter rain has nothing to do with the Holy Spirit also. It is a term used in agriculture. The former rain is the rain needed for planted seeds to take root and the latter rain refers to the rain that occurs before harvest time. In the middle east the two rains are needed for an agricultural harvest. It is physical rain on a physical earth with physical fruits. There is no spirit here or anointing here.

Same thing with Zechariah 10:1

Zechariah 10:1 “Ask ye of the Lord rain in the time of the latter rain; so the Lord shall make bright clouds,
and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.”

Here the prophet tells the Jews to ask for the latter rain that causes the fruit to blossom. He told them to ask because there was no rain during this period. Now note the rain is physical and so is the grass.

We are not to read anything into the scriptures and say oh the grass is every human being etc. The verse didn’t say that. It said grass, let’s leave it as grass.

The scriptures doesn’t only use rain to refer to water from the sky.

It rained bread. Exodus 16:34

It rained hail. Exodus 9:18

Rain of righteousness. Hosea 10:12

Now in the new testament water has been used to typify the operation of the spirit. And every time the location of that water is in Christ and in the believer who is in Christ.

John 4:14 “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

Notice the water shall be in him!

In him!

Look here also

John 7:37 “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.”

Rivers of living water.

From where?

Out of his belly!

So from the womb of the spirit of the believer flows rivers of living water which speak of the Holy Ghost!

It is not raining from heaven!

It is flowing from the believer!

From within him.

Not from above.

From within him!

The Holy Ghost now lives in the believer.

Now to flood gates or Windows of heaven.

The word window is the Hebrew ‘arruba’ which means lattice or opening.

The word heaven is “shammayim” it means sky.

The Windows of heaven refers to an opening in the sky through which rain falls.
To understand this concept you must first understand one very important truth.

Before Adams fall there were two water bodies.

Genesis 1:6 “And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.”

Notice the firmament (heaven) separated waters under it from water above it. So there was water under the sky and water above the sky.

At Noahs’ period about 2000 years after the fall of Adam, the firmament got weak and an opening or Windows were formed and the waters above emptied themselves on the earth causing death and destruction.

The Windows of heaven just means an opening in the sky for rain to fall. It is physical and not spiritual.

Even in Malachi 3:10 “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.”

The blessing was rain.

Because the effects of the blessing was agricultural increase.

Rain in the old testament was a sign of God’s blessing. When it was withheld, it meant the law was broken.

1 Kings 8:35 “When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them: Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.”

So if we sing “open the floodgates of heaven let it rain” from the scriptures what we mean is for physical rain to fall!

But if what we want is to be full of the spirit, then we need now floodgates open from heaven. We have the spirit within and upon us. All we need to do is drink and get drunk!

Ephesians 5:18 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of the lord.”

Get it?

CONFESSION: I speak the word of God everytime!
