HOW TO STUDY THE SCRIPTURES 7

Memory verse: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works”.

There are materials that aid the study of the scriptures. They enrich your study and help cover a lot of grounds as you study. I will go through some important materials you need to properly and thoroughly investigate the scriptures.

Now the first material you need is obviously The Bible. Remember, that we have earlier said in earlier writings that the study of the original grammar of the scriptures is vital to understanding it. Now there are translations of the bible which translate certain words better than others. While the King James Bible is an awesome bible, it is advisable that you get others like the NIV, The Living Bible, The Message Bible, The Revised Standard Version etc.

Next, it is important to have a writing material to write down what you learnt that day. Just like you take notes in school, take notes during your personal bible study.

Also, get a bible concordance and a Greek and Hebrew dictionary (I recommend vines expository dictionary of Greek and Hebrew words). There are also bible apps that already have the original words written side by side with the scriptures.

I will advise you also invest in doctrinal books written by proven teachers. I can recommend Kenneth Hagin’s books for you to be grounded in the basics. Also get the books written by Joseph Prince.

Develop a habit of getting messages of bible teachers and listen voraciously! As you do these things you will discover that you will grow in your understanding of the scriptures!

Now you have read this. Get started!

CONFESSION: I am born of God, I am an ardent reader of the bible. I study properly. I get materials that make my study more effective. Amen
