The Christian and sin 3.

Is it possible for the Christian to be perfect? Well, the Christian is already perfect! He is perfect in his spirit.

Let me show you a few things about the born again spirit.

1. He is born of God

1 John 4:4 “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world”

1 Peter 1:23 “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”

This refers to the spirit of the man born again.

2. He is indwelt by God, He is Gods temple.

1 Corinthians 3:16 “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you.”

1 Corinthians 6:19 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”

3. He is complete or perfect in Christ.

Colossians 2:9 “For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ.”

Notice also the man’s spirit has been circumcised!

Though the spirit is perfect, the soul and the body remember the old man and his ways.

The soul has to be renewed with the word.

What does that mean? Well, the soul has to be introduced by the word to the identity of the man within! He has to think his thoughts and align with his new nature.

Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

The soul has taste of the life within your spirit. The spirit has to dominate the soul like a king his new territory. The degree to which this happens is the degree to which a man is said to grow spiritually.

Spiritual growth is not your spirit man gr owing because spirits don’t grow. It is rather your soul growing in knowledge of who Christ is and who you are in Christ. This knowledge propels you to act in a certain way.

The issue when a believer sins should not be of the authenticity of his salvation but the renewing of his mind. The problem isn’t whether or not he is saved. The issue is the dominating thoughts in his mind!

A sinning Christian is not one without Christ in him. He is one who hasn’t fed his soul with the light, life and nature of God in his spirit. He sins because he isn’t looking at Christ.

The solution to the sinning Christian is not a threat of damnation or eternal condemnation but a teaching and training to keep his eyes on Christ Jesus!

Hebrews 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

CONFESSION: I am born again. I choose to renew my mind daily. I expose my mind to the character of the new man within. In my conduct, I have dominion over sin. Amen
