The leading of the Spirit 2
Romans 8:14-16 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God”
We have seen that the Spirit of God within the believer is always leading the believer. This is not something he ever stops doing. He is always leading!
The issue is believers have not been trained to receive this leading.
To be able to effectively follow or receive of the leading of the spirit we must understand the following.
Man is a spirit that has a soul and lives in a body.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
Notice the order.
Spirit, soul and body.
Not body, soul and spirit.
Now the voice of your spirit man is the leading of the spirit. This is because your spirit man is born of God and indwelt by him.
The voice of the soul is reason and logic.
The voice of your body is your feelings or emotions.
So there are three voices.
The issue with many believers is that the irrelevant voices are allowed to speak the loudest and have the most air-play!
Let’s say you meet a nice guy and you are very attracted to him. Your “feel” good about him. The “feeling ” is not from your spirit but your body. There is no leading of the spirit in your body. You now look at what he does, what he drives and what drives him and you “reason” he is a good Guy. That’s the voice of your mind and logic and not the leading of the spirit.
So you feel good and “reason” good. So how do you now know what is in your spirit concerning this guy?
It’s very easy.
You need to do two things .
1. Tune down the voice of your body and the voice of reason.
2. Increase the activity of your inner man by exercising him.
I will show you how to do this in the next post.
CONFESSION: I have the leading of the Spirit, the voice of my spirit is the loudest in me. I subject the voice of my feelings and reason to the voice of my spirit. Amen!
