The manifestation of the spirit 6

Memory verse: 1 Corinthians 12:7 “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal”

We have said that to walk in the things of the spirit you must covet it. What does it means to covet?

1 Corinthians 12:31 “But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.”

The word covet means to be desirous about something or someone. It is usually used with regards to wanting what another has.

Exodus 20:17 “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbours”

Deuteronomy 5:21 “Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour’s.”

The word covet appears 7 times in the scriptures. 3 times in the old testament and four times in the new. 5 times it is used to refer to desiring what another has that you want.

Twice it is used to refer to spiritual gifts.

Now there is a description of the kind of coveting we are to do. Paul says “covet earnestly”. The word earnestly is the Greek “zelo” where we get the word zeal from. It means to “pursue to apprehend”. It speaks of a singularity of purpose, focus and commitment.

This shows that if we set our affection and mind towards desiring to demonstrate certain gifts, we will walk in them.

This is because desire will make you separate yourself to pray and meditate on the word. Desire will make you attend Holy Ghost meetings and services where the gifts are in demonstration.

Desire will make you watch and follow ministers and ministries who flow in the gift you covet.

Desire!

Covet earnestly!

The issue with believers is that our desires are not resolute and focused. Note that desire is a thing of the mind and hence you cannot be desirous of the worldly and mundane and desire the spiritual. The desire for the spiritual will be weak. Your focus will be divided.

Desire!

Zealously!

The best gifts!

He also says “covet to prophesy”

With desire you will walk in all of What God has provided.

Godly desires always leads into Godly manifestations.

Glory to God.

CONFESSION: I desire earnestly, I am able to receive all that God intend for the new creation. Amen
