The manifestation of the Spirit 7

1 Corinthians 12:7 “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal”.

It is important to understand that the moment you received Jesus as savior, you were given everything that pertained to life and Godliness.

The moment you received it is not the moment you were given. You were given all things once you received Christ to live in you.

Let me use an example.

Imagine you were given a container of gifts for your birthday. This container has at least 10000 gifts. The fact that you were given that container doesn’t mean you have opened it and unwrapped every one of the gifts. So after being given, you receive then you discover what is in the package!

Peter says here

2 Peter 1:3 “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.”

There are certain words I want to bring to your attention.

The words “given”and “receive”

Then there is “knowledge”

When studying the construct of sentences in scriptures it is important to study the words used in their originals and the parts of speech the words are .

For example .

1 Corinthians 12:7 “For the manifestation of the spirit is given to every man to profit withal”

The word manifestation is the Greek “phanerosis”. It means an unveiling of what was formerly veiled. Phanerosis is a noun. This means it is not an active word but a state or position.

But the “is given” is the Greek “didomi” that’s a verb it is active. This shows us that the position or state of “the manifestation” is actively wrought by the spirit.

All these is on the God end.

What of the “every man”?

He is to receive!

The word receive is the Greek “lambano”

It is a verb. It is an active word.

To enjoy all we have been given in Christ, we must receive!

Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth”

Acts 19:2 “He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost”

Receiving is our response to what he has given.

In that one Manifestation Christ by the spirit has given us all things. We are to receive!

After receiving, we are to discover with precision what we have been given. This occurs by knowledge. Paul calls this knowledge “epignosis or epiginosko”.

Ephesians 4:13 “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.”

He also writes to the Corinthian church about the importance of not being ignorant of spiritual things.

1 Corinthians 12:1 “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.”

The Corinthian church flowed a lot in spiritual gifts yet Paul wrote so they would not be ignorant!

So if you don’t speak in tongues for example, God is not holding out on you. He has given, it is your response to receive!

CONFESSION: God has already given, I partake of all! Amen
