THE NATURE OF GOD 10
Memory Verse: Hebrews 9:28 “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation”
I want to show that when sin brought destruction on the earth it wasn’t because God desired to destroy. I will show from the word how the justice system of the invisible worked in the Old Testament and how it works now.
First, God is a judge.
Genesis 18:25 “That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”
Who is a judge?
A judge is an administrator of a justice system.
He is an officer of the law.
He can’t take sides.
He will always side with the law.
He will side with justice.
Now every legal system has a constitution or law.
It also has officials of the court.
There is the prosecutor and the defendant.
Then there is the accused.
In bible language, the prosecutor or accuser is Satan!
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. Revelations 12:10
The accuser is the Greek “kategoreo” which means the prosecuting lawyer. The one who brings a case against.
The defense lawyer in bible terms is called the advocate. He is the one who brings reasons why the accused goes free.
Jesus is the advocate.
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous 1 John 2:1
Now every case in heaven’s court is settled base on the weight of evidence, the law of God and the arguments of the lawyers.
There is the last one. The confessions of the accused.
Let us use Sodom as a case study.
And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. Genesis 18:21
The judge of the whole earth says “a cry as come to me about Sodom”
What cry? It was a cry of accusation from the accuser.
Now the judge wanted evidence. Because without evidence you have no case.
So he came to see.
Now at this time there was an accuser but there was no advocate!
No defense lawyer!
So God comes to Abraham.
Why?
He wanted Abraham to intercede for them.
He wanted Abraham to argue his case.
To counter the words of the accuser.
Here was the problem.
Abraham instead of advocating based on the blood, based on substitution he argued based on works.
He said “if there are 50 righteous people would you destroy?”
It was a weak argument.
Righteousness in heaven’s court was by faith in the substitution.
There was no man!
He lost the case.
The last hope was the sodomites themselves.
Instead of a witness of remorse they provided the evidence of their sin.
The case was closed.
The accuser won.
The judge had to pass the sentence.
Which was what?
“The wages of sin is death”
The soul that sins it shall die”
It was legal justice.
The issue was there was no advocate who was able to defend them.
There was no offering who had taken their place.
No wonder Job cried
“I know my redeemer lives!”
This is how it works.
That is why destruction came to Sodom.
CONFESSION:. I am a new creation, I am justified by Christ. Jesus Christ is my advocate. I know my redeemer lives. I can never come into condemnation before God anymore. Hallelujah
