THE NATURE OF GOD 3
Memory Verse: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:17
How do we explain the flood of Noah?
How do we explain Sodom and Gomorrah?
How do we explain lots wife?
Did God destroy the then world because he was tired of their sin?
Why would a just God just wipe out a whole generation of people because of a nature of sin that they inherited??
First, we return to the logic of God-the person of Jesus Christ.
We must also realize something very important.
The bible is not the word (logos) of God!
The bible contains writings that reveal the word of God!
You can read the bible and not read the word of God.
But to read the word you have to read the bible!
Look here “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:17”
The word “all scripture” is the Greek “pasa graphay” it refers to the writings or the holy writing. They are holy because the inspiration behind the writings is holy and of God.
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 1 Peter 1:20-21
We see here “the prophecy of the scriptures”. So in what was written there were prophecies. It is not everything written that was a prophecy. A part were prophecies. Words inspired by the Holy Ghost about a person Jesus Christ!
Luke 24:44 “And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.”
Now the scriptures being referred to in all these verses refers to all written in the Old Testament section of the Bible. It doesn’t involve the New Testament at all.
So the prophecies testified of Jesus.
Let’s define the bible properly.
- Old Testament refers to “scriptures”
- Matthew – John refers to the earthly account of the logos – Jesus activities.
- Acts – speaks of the activities of the church
- The epistles – revelation of the “scriptures”
Romans 16:25-26 “Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith”
The epistles of Paul and the apostles were written so we could understand what was written in the scriptures. The scriptures are mysteries but in the epistles the mystery is made manifest.
CONFESSION: I am born of God, I express his good nature. I consistently do good deeds. I am born of love.
