THE NATURE OF GOD 6
Memory Verse: John 1:14 “And the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth”
We have said that Jesus is the logos or the explanation of God.
Now we must see something big here.
The word became flesh and what name did we hear him being called????
Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
So the word, the explanation of who God is was named savior!
JESUS is jehoshea in Hebrew which means Jehovah saves! This is who God is. The God who saves! He is not the one destroying. He is the one who saves.
Now we who have received the spirit and have Christ within us cannot read Moses and see like Moses! We have more light!
Let’s begin with the flood of Noah.
Did God send a deluge from heaven?
Moses seems to say so
Genesis 6:7 “And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord”
Genesis 7:11-13 “In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark
When we read Moses it seems God sent the flood to destroy the unrighteous and save the righteous who lived badly.
However what does the Spirit of Christ show?
First, where did the water come from?
It’s simple.
Let’s go to Genesis 1
Genesis 1:6-7 “And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so”
Note something here please.
There were two water bodies.
One was above the firmament we call the sky.
The other was under the firmament on earth in one place.
Why was there water above the firmament? To shield man from the rays of the sun.
This was the reason why men lived long until the flood came.
Now when sin came in it affected the earth and all created by God for man’s enjoyment.
The firmament began to crack.
It took close to 1000 years for the crack to be big enough.
God knew that the firmament would break lose so because he wanted to save men he warned Noah!
He said to him
“see the sky will shed water! Build a salvation boat and warn everyone”
He wanted to save men.
See another truth.
God told Noah about the ark and flood 120 years before the flood came.
120 years!
It wasn’t to build the ark.
It was for men to heed the message and enter the ark!
Noah is called a preacher of righteousness.
The men died because they didn’t listen to the word and enter the ark.
It wasn’t because Noah was better.
Noah was saved for two reasons.
He was favored.
He believed the word.
He is said to be righteous because he believed the word!
CONFESSION: I am a person of faith, I believe God’s word. I know that God’s word spoken has in itself everything needed to make it happen. I choose to speak only God’s word.
