THE NATURE OF GOD 8

Memory Verse: John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

It is interesting to note that the Old Testament is very quiet about Satan.

In fact, he is rarely mentioned.

He is typified by a serpent in Gen 3; Referred to in Isaiah 14 as the son of the morning.

He was spoken about in Job 1 and 2.

Even in Job it is not explicitly stated that the travails of job were from Satan!

Why is this?

There was no revelation of Satan in the Old Testament.

He was operating in plain sight yet he wasn’t revealed to priests, prophets or kings.

When the true light came however he unveils him.

Hear Jesus:

John 8:44 “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

He is a liar.

He is a murderer from the beginning.

Which beginning?

The first murder.

Cain killing Abel was inspired by Satan.

Genesis will not tell you that. Jesus does.

He steals, kills, destroys.

John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

If you see stealing, killing and destruction in the bible it wasn’t God, it was Satan!

I find it interesting that rarely did prophets in the Old Testament see evil spirits. In fact there is an account in scriptures where a prophet thought God moved David to sin whereas it was Satan!

2 Samuel 24:1-3 “And again the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah. For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people”

Here it says God was angry and moved David.

1 Chronicles 21:1-3 “And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it”

Here it says it was Satan who moved David!

It was actually Satan who moved David to sin.

It was against the law for a census to occur without proper sacrifices.

Satan moved David to sin.

David yielded.

Satan who had the power of death then brought death and destruction to Israel!

But Prophet Nathan saw it as God.

He didn’t have a revelation of Satan.

We can only understand the Old Testament when we look through the eyes of the logos of God!

Satan is the destroyer.

God is the savior, the redeemer.

CONFESSION:  I am born of God, I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me. I win always. Amen
