Be Generous

Memory verse: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”

One of the greatest attribute of love is its capacity to give. It is possible to give without loving but impossible to love without giving. God communicated his love to us in that He gave us His best, His only begotten son Jesus Christ. Love does not give to receive; it gives because it is its nature to do so. It is the delight of love to receive when it gives just as God is delighted when we respond to his love gifts by receiving them. So the joy of love when it gives is that what he gives is received. It is very important as believers that we are generous when it comes to giving.

The bible clearly instructs us to be givers. We are to give to the poor and those in need amongst ourselves Acts 2:45 “ and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need” ,we are to give to our spiritual teachers and mentors Galatians 6:6-7, “Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” and we are to give for special projects in our local assembly.

1 Corinthians 16:1-2 “Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.”

The scriptures tell us that God loves a cheerful giver whose delight is in his giving. Whenever you give, ensure that you are generous, be liberal about it. Do not give grudgingly or meagerly. Give generously as God has prospered you. Remember, it is the nature of your father’s heart to give. Jesus said repeatedly “it is better to give than to receive”

CONFESSION: I am a generous giver; I help those around me because I have God’s nature of love. I am blessed in my giving, I prosper in my giving, and I continually make progress in my giving. Amen
