OUR GOD IS ONE 1

Memory verse: Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord”.

Many folks of other religions think that Christians worship 3 Gods. They say we worship the father, the son and the Holy Spirit. At times the actions of believers seem to support that position. We say things like “in the name of the father, the son and the Holy Spirit” .

Let me first say that Christians do not serve three Gods! Just one!

Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord”.

This is monotheistic declaration. He is saying there is none apart from me. This is Jehovah revealing himself to Israel as one God.

However, there is a mystery which has been revealed anyway to this “one God”.

The Hebrew word for “one is “echad”. Now echad doesn’t mean singular. It is a word used to singularise a plurality.

Let’s look at a good example.

Exodus 24:3”And Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the Lord hath said will we do”

We have the Hebrew word “echad” again used here. This wasn’t one man talking it was the whole of the nation of Israel speaking with “one “voice”. Echad is used for one. Many elements but acting as one.

There is another word in Hebrew for one. It is the word “yachid”. It means singular or alone. It is never used to refer to the nature of God.

Now let us understand the mystery of the God head and demystify it.

1 Timothy 3:16 “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory”

It says God was “manifested” in the flesh.

Manifest is from the Greek “phaneroo”. It means to render apparent. This means that the person manifested preexisted that manifestation.

Let me explain a few things first about God.

The bible begins with

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth Genesis 1:1

So if God created the beginning, that is the realm of time and matter (all flesh and things seen) it means he preceded it.

He created time hence doesn’t live in time.

He created matter hence he isn’t made of matter.

He is the Lord of all we see and don’t see because all came from and by him.

So God was and still is the one who lives outside the realm of time and matter.

This is God. The one God.

However, this God moves in the realm of matter in an unseen form – we call this manifestation the Holy Spirit. We see his effects but can’t see his form.

God also manifested himself in the realm of time and matter!

Jesus is the entrance of the lord of time and space in time and space.

Jesus is God manifested in time and matter!

Same Timeless God, manifested invisibly in matter and time by his spirit.

Same Timeless God manifested visibly in time and matter as Jesus!

It’s the same God!

Glory!

CONFESSION: Our God is One! I am born of one God. He is Lord of all I see and don’t see.
